The range of “traditional finishes” include all metallic coating that produce effects both glossy and matt on the various material treated. Conferring to the article the physical/chemical and decorative features of the metallic finish.

GOLD ELECTROPLATING AND COATING

Gesm S.p.a. performs two types of gold plating baths: an acid gold plating at 24 kt and an alkaline gold plating at 24 kt that produces a deeper and thicker colour. These baths are used to deposit thin layers of pure gold, ranging from a thickness of 0.02 to 0.05 micron according to the type of article. It is possible to electroplate different thicknesses on the customer´s request, guaranteeing quality with a written certificate

SILVER AND SILVER THICKNESS

Gesm S.p.a. is equipped with two different silvering baths: one, particularly shiny, is for white silver and the second is for thicknesing silver that subsequently undergoes antique finish procedures. The latter has a greater concentration of precious metal.Such silvering baths allow the production of deposits similar to pure silver.

The process is characterized by the following features:

  • High pureness of the deposit
  • No inorganic additives
  • Excellent weldability
  • Excellent penetration
  • Low internal tensions
  • Wide interval of current density

BRASS PLATING AND GALVANIC COATINGS

Gesm S.p.a.’s brassing process produces glossy brass deposits from a hydrocyanic basis electrolyte that has a copper-zinc relation of around 70-30.

The process is characterized by the following features:

  • Yellow brass deposit unchanged in time
  • Good penetration
  • Ductile deposits
  • Low internal tension

COATINGS IN NICKEL AND NICKEL-ROTO

Gesm S.p.a. performs two types of nickel plating baths: the first one is a glossy nickel plating and the second is a mat nickel plating. The nickel plating processes can obtain also for rotobarrel platings smooth and white-toned deposits, even in low current density areas.

The process is characterized by the following features:

  • White/grey deposit
  • Excellent penetrating power
  • High ductility
  • Excellent distribution
  • Fine and compact deposit grain (glossy tinning)
  • Low internal tension, especially for the mat deposit

COPPER PLATING ALKALINE COPPER AND ACID

Galvanic Gesm S.p.a. performs two types of copper plating: an alkaline copper plating and an acid copper plating.

Gesm S.p.a.'s alkaline copper plating bath consists of a cyanide semigloss copper electrolyte.

The procedure is characterized by the following features:

  • Excellent penetrating power with low current density (thus maximum plating of the parts)
  • Semigloss layers
  • High distribution
  • Easy-to-analyse, steady values.

Gesm S.p.a.'s acid copper plating bath produces extremely glossy and compact copper deposits from an acid electrolyte. It is generally used after the alkaline copper plating to enhance the deposit´s glossiness and coating.

The procedure is characterised by the following features:

  • High-standard smoothing
  • Extremely glossy layers
  • Excellent distributione
  • Simple maintenance
  • Ductile deposits, low tension
  • Good capacity of following layers

PLATING AND TIN COATING

Our company carries out two different tin plating processes: a glossy one and a mat one. The salt spray tests carried out until today prove their great resistance to corrosion, thus allowing the production of excellent tin deposits.

The main features of this process are:

  • Milky deposit
  • Excellent penetrating power
  • High ductility
  • Excellent distribution
  • Smooth and glossy deposit (glossy tinning)
  • Fine and compact deposit grain (glossy tinning)
  • Low internal tension, especially for the mat deposit

CLASSIC FINISHES "FREE (NO NICKEL)"

Millions of people suffer from allergies caused by nickel release. Our company is particularly sensitive to this serious issue and works in compliance with the provisions in force. In the years, it has analyzed and developed new nickel free finishes that are today our point of strength.

Among the most important nickel free finishes there are:

  • Nickel free and / or white bronze
  • palladium
  • Barrel shotgun free
  • Barrel shotgun free acid copper
  • Barrel shotgun free matte
  • blackening free
  • gold free
  • similoro free
  • Similoro free acid copper
  • Similoro free matte
  • free brass
  • Similcromo
  • A series of new processes of oxidation and antiquing
  • copper free
  • Acid copper free
  • silver free
  • rhodium
  • ruthenium
  • Golden brown (gold chocolate)
  • rose gold

There are hundreds of colours that the company has, in the years, developed and tested and that are now a part of the nickel free finishes.

The nickel free bath is a process that deposits a white bronze alloy. It can be used as a finish or as a substratum for further deposits, even precious ones. It is an excellent substitute for nickel.

The process is characterized by the following features:

  • White colour
  • Ternary alloy copper-tin-zinc
  • Good stability in time
  • Good resistance to salt and weather corrosion
  • Good penetrating power

The gunbarrel-coloured free bath is a process that produces a darker deposit compared to the traditional "gun barrel" finishes. That is because nearly everybody on the market uses, for this type of finish, a tin-cobalt alloy, while ours, considering its chemical composition, produces electroplatings that, on the customer's specific request, can have different colour shades, ranging from the lightest to the darkest, such as a very dark blue.

The blackening free bath is a process that, depositing a cobalt, zinc and tin alloy, produces finishes with shades ranging from blue-black to dark brown. This kind of bath is mostly used with parts that will subsequently undergo antique finish processes.
