The electroplating technique entails a number of treatments taking place in a sequence. The stages can be grouped as follows:
The surface of the support needs to be particularly smooth as electroplating does not always conceal surface imperfections. When dealing with very glossy finishes, imperfections could be highlighted. For this reason, ensuring a proper preparation of the part is fundamental: the covering sticks on the base metal only if its surface has been cleared, that is, if all the substances usually or occasionally present on it, such as fat residues from former mechanical workings, or oxides formed after welding operations.
Treatments for the preparation of the surface entail degreasing (removal of any greasy residue from former mechanical workings) and pickling (removal of oxides layer on the surface, usually present to improve adhesion of the deposit to the base metal).
After the pickling process is over, a powerful wash of the parts is fundamental in order to thoroughly remove any trace of acid on the surface.
The quality of the electrolytic deposit highly depends on the properties of the galvanic bath, which needs always to be transparent and solid suspended particles free.
The basins have a rectangular shape and are made of plastic material; their capacity ranges from 650 l to 4000 l. The process is carried out dipping bored containers (barrel plating) in the basins, so that the objects inside are randomly oriented in relation to the anode and so that the layer of deposited metal is more regular.
Within the bored containers the objects must be free to roll; thus, they do not have to group together or get jammed. For this reason we have created multispeed customized rototumbler. Thanks to other electromechanic devices our quality is today similar at static deposition.
